The system works like this. An operator scans the package and manually places it on a small conveyor above the robot. At that same moment, the robot determines that it has a package and, based on the barcode information, a destination within the warehouse is determined. This output is assigned to the robot, which calculates the best way to find the destination and get going. Once the robot has traveled the route and reached its destination, it can move the package to a ramp or wait for an operator to manually remove it. To extend the autonomous process one step further, a robotic arm is being developed for the induction zone that would work synchronously with the robots.
