Consumer purchasing habits have undergone a major transformation in the last two years due to the rise of e-commerce and will play a key role in the evolution of micro-fulfillment centers. This is revealed by the report Three Emerging Trends in Intralogistics published by Element Logic, which predicts that micro-fulfillment centers will end up prevailing in the next five or ten years in Europe, as the online channel gains ground and consumers get used to it. to the convenience of fast deliveries.

Although the use of micro-fulfillment centers is a very advanced way of managing logistics, there are still many companies that operate in these facilities but have not automated their processes. In this sense, the authors of the report point out that in the coming years, technology will become a true ally for this type of facility in order to offer the best delivery experience to customers whose service demands are increasingly high.

The second big trend that Element Logic detects in its whitepaper is the rise of e-grocery. Although food e-commerce has long been an emerging trend, the pandemic has really accelerated this phenomenon. Thus, as e-grocery takes hold, so will the need to ensure efficient, fast and reliable deliveries.

Lastly, the future of the sector also involves warehouse automation as a service (AaaS). Currently, not all companies have the necessary financing to invest in this process, so renting an automated warehouse solution will allow a greater number of companies to take the step without the need to make large investments, thus reducing the risks and making automation more accessible.
