Norwegian electrical equipment supplier Elektroskandia chose to implement AutoStore with Element Logic, in addition to Element WCS software, created to achieve maximum system performance, in 2012. The company decided to automate its warehouse with this solution in order to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive market.
In addition to centralizing more than 60% of merchandise and handling operations in a single area, which was previously divided into several manual areas and vertical elevators and carousels, AutoStore allowed Elektroskandia to save up to 1,000 square meters of storage space. “With this automation system “both the flow of goods and the efficiency improved considerably, but we were also able to reduce the number of shipments to our customers”, adds Arild Brennholm, former Director of Distribution of the group.
On the other hand, AutoStore also allowed the company to save costs, thanks to its cutting-edge technology that uses low-energy modules and robots. In fact, AutoStore consumes 10-15% energy, compared to a miniload.
“The system also helps to reduce picking errors and lower energy consumption, which, again, translates into lower costs and less impact on the environment,” says Brennholm.
Given the increase in activity, Elektroskandia decided to open a new distribution center to obtain greater flexibility and efficiency for the future. Thus, in 2017 it inaugurated a new 14,500 square meter building in Langhus, on the outskirts of Oslo. On this occasion, Element Logic was also the turnkey supplier for the project: it provided the company with all the equipment in the warehouse, including pallet racks, coil racks and cantilever racks, as well as moving and somewhat increasing the autostore system.
