Actemium Bilbao has participated in a leisure and support activity for people with mental illness with the help of AVIFES, an association created with the purpose of providing well-being to society, challenging the stigmas associated with mental health and promoting equality towards people who suffer from psychological disorders. This collaboration has been carried out from the involvement of the brand and from a deep concern for raising awareness about mental illness, seeking to promote understanding and respect at the same time, through active help to those who need it most.
According to the Mental Health Confederation of Spain, 1 in 4 Spaniards will have a mental health problem at some point in their life. Recognizing the importance of giving visibility to such a notorious problem, Actemium Spain has wanted to contribute its time and dedication to challenge and break down myths about mental health, contributing to a more inclusive and understanding society.
On April 26, Actemium and AVIFES organized an outing along the “Paseo de los Caños” in Bilbao, offering support and company to the 11 participants from the association who took part in the hiking activity along the Bilbao route. The group of AVIFES participants was made up of people with various mental health problems, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). “Although at first we were taken by surprise by the diversity of mental illnesses and ages of the people we were accompanying, we were soon able to break down prejudices and genuinely connect with each individual,” reveals Ikerne Aresti, Business Manager at Actemium Spain.
